A cultural function is the practical and useful performance
relevant to our culture. It gives us joy and helps us to improve our culture.
Of many cultural functions I have attended in recent years, I remember the one
that took place at our college auditorium in observance of our “Victory Day”. Last
week our college premises in order to celebrate the victory which we won in
1971 as well as to pay a glowing tribute to those valiant sons of our country
who laid down their lives for our independence. Some of our college students
inaugurated the programme by singing a very melodious song. After that some of
our honourable teachers very beautifully narrated the history of Victory Day.
Then started the recitation of poems based on independence and victory. Then
again, different songs composed by the established poets and lyricist were
performed. To mark the celebration a drama related to our Independence War
staged in our martyrdom of our people in 1971. The full audience made the pin-drop
silence during the drama performance. Almost all of our teachers, students,
some of our guardians, elites and liberation war veterans of our locality were
present there. After the end of the drama, all of us praised the excellent
performance of our students. The Chief Guest of the programme appreciated the
initiative to show the importance of the victory day in our life. I was
presented there all the time and took part in organizing the programme. Though
I did not take part in the drama as a performer, I enjoyed the performance very
much and got inspired remembering the struggle and sacrifice of our people in
1971 for the sake of our existence.
