Early Marriage In Bangladesh
Early
Marriage is one of the social evils of our country. Early Marriage means to get
married before becoming mature. Still in many remote parts of our country, this
social vice is being practiced and in most cases girls are the victims of this
evil. However in many cases, boys are also forced to marry at a tender age. Most
of the people in our country are illiterate. They do not think much. They think
that daughters should be married off as soon as possible because they consider
them a burden upon their head. This early marriage has some destructive effects
on the minds and bodies of the young girls and boys as well as their future
generation which hamper the overall progress of our society. First, a girl who
is married off at the age of 12-15, loses her health. Because she is married
off before she reaches physical maturity necessary to be a wife. For this
reason, she is likely to give birth to an unhealthy child which suffers from
different types of health challenges and in many cases dies just after birth. And
she suffers much and sometimes dies during the delivery of her child. Those who
are alive become weak and suffer from malnutrition. Second, as soon as she gets
married, she becomes only a wife but loses all her hopes, dreams and
potentialities.
She can, no more, be a doctor, nurse, teacher and anything else
except a mother. As a result our society loses human potentialities because of
the early marriage. She becomes deprived of the light of education, remains
unaware of the world and even herself. Like a girl, a boy who marries early in
also faces a lot of problems. He has to earn and so gives up his education as
well as deprives his society of his hidden talents. All these things together
block the progress and development of our society. So in order to stop early
marriage, all of us should come forward and make a massive campaign against it.
